About Jane

Jane Austen was a novelist who wrote about life in the 18th century with a focus on the lives of women and commented on the society of the rich. She was born on the in Steventon, Hampshire. She lived in Bath with her parents and sister Cassandra, and after her father’s death moved from place to place before she settled at Chawton in a cottage near her brother’s estate. Her first published work, Sense and Sensibility was published in and did not include her name, but instead was printed that it was written by a lady. She died in Winchester on the , she was buried on the north aisle of the nave of Winchester Cathedral.
